MOUNT HUTT has the most reliable snow cover in Australasia. It has a high altitude (2,086m) and an ideal south/easterly aspect – perfect conditions to attract plenty of predominantly light, dry snow.
Nearby (within a 1½ to 2½ hour drive) are another 6 local ski areas – most have limited facilities, but Mt Cheeseman and in particular, Porters are definitely worth a visit on a good day.
This region also has some of the best heliski/board terrain in New Zealand. |

WHERE IS MOUNT HUTT?
Mount Hutt is located in the middle of New Zealand’s South Island, 91kms from Christchurch, its gateway city. The accommodation centre for Mount Hutt is Methven, which is located 24kms from the mountain.
GETTING THERE & GETTING AROUND
GETTING THERE: Travellers into the region take a coach transfer or self drive rental car from Christchurch to Methven and also to get to and from the ski area.
