How to get to Mount Hutt

Mount Hutt is located in the middle of New Zealand’s South Island, 91kms from Christchurch, its gateway city. The accommodation centre for Mount Hutt is Methven, a small rural town which becomes an alpine village in the winter. Methven is located 24kms from the mountain. Travellers into the region take a coach transfer or self drive rental car from Christchurch to Methven and also to get to and from the ski area each day.

How to get around

Choose between the "ski bus" coach or a self drive rental car to travel between your accommodation
and the ski areas.

OPTION A: SKI BUS TRAVEL

This is our most popular way to travel up and down the mountain. You can sit back, relax and let someone else drive. You don’t have to drive on icy roads or fit chains in freezing conditions. It’s relatively inexpensive (with no petrol & insurance costs) and is an easy way to meet other skiers.

Methven Travel operate daily Ski Bus services to Mt Hutt from Methven. Depending upon the time of the season you usually have the choice of two departure and two return times. Methven Travel's Ski Buses pick up at most accommodation in Methven and will take you to the mountain. After skiing they can take you back down to your accommodation, or into the town centre

OPTION B: SELF DRIVE RENTAL CAR

Self Drive transport gives you the flexibility to do your own thing – to go where you want when you want. Remember, when doing your costings to allow for petrol and vehicle insurance excess.
