Itinerary

• Day 1: Christchurch

  Arrive Christchurch and collect your rental vehicle. Today the remainder of your day is at your leisure to explore the city of Christchurch known as the “Garden City”. This picturesque city has good cafes, street bars, restaurants and nightlife. Be sure to take a walk, or punt ride along the River Avon and to see the Botanical Gardens, Arts Centre,  the Antarctic Centre and Casino.

• Day 2: Christchurch to Hanmer Springs – 135 kms

  This morning depart Christchurch and follow state highway 7 up to Hanmer Springs. On the way you will pass the Canterbury Plains and drive through the Balmoral Forest. After checking into your accommodation take a walk down to the therapeutic mineral pools at Hanmer Springs for a soak in the hot pools or even better treat yourself to a massage or facial treatment, or hire out a private spa.

• Day 3: Hanmer Springs to Nelson – 350 kms

  Today continue your journey further north to the Marlborough Region. This region is renowned for its National Parks, golden beaches, artist, wineries, seafood and the country's highest sunshine hours. Before reaching your destination you drive over the Lewis Pass through Maruia Forest, past the town of Murchison and onto Nelson, the gateway to the Abel Tasman National Park. This afternoon visit the World of Wearable Arts and Collectable Cars Museum.

• Day 4: Nelson

  Today you have the entire day in Nelson. Why not take the opportunity to explore the stunning Abel Tasman National Park. There is plenty to choose from: sea kayaking, take a cruise or join a guided walk tour in the National Park, the choice is yours. Alternatively spend the day discovering Nelson and all it has to offer.

• Day 5: Nelson to Blenheim – 117 kms

  Enjoy a leisurely morning in Nelson before driving across to Blenheim, the largest town in the Marlborough wine region and also New Zealand's premier wine growing town. Upon arrival visit the Montana Brancott winery for a 1 hour wine tour, where you can also enjoy lunch at the restaurant on site.

• Day 6: Blenheim to Christchurch – 320 kms

  Drive south along the Kaikoura Coast, arriving in time to join the midday Whale Watch Tour. Kaikoura is a beautiful town, famous for whale watching and great seafood. After lunch continue your drive south through the Canterbury Plains, before arriving into Christchurch. Tonight you have the evening to walk around the city, dine out or why not try your luck at the Casino.
